Damping Behavior of Hybrid Composite Structures by Aeronautical Technologies

Hybrid composite laminates are manufactured by using technologies and raw materials of the aeronautic sector with aim to improve damping behavior structures. Matrix hybridization was achieved laminating carbon fiber reinforced (CFR) plies elastomer interlayers. Up 10 different sandwich architectures were investigated changing stacking sequence, thickness layers, typology, whereas total number CFR fixed six for all hybrid composites. Square panels size 300 × mm2 autoclave molded vacuum bagging, rectangular samples extracted static dynamic tests. Dynamic mechanical analyses performed measure storage modulus loss factor materials, which compared performances structures under bending. Repeated loading–unloading cycles free oscillation tests allowed us energy per unit volume, acceleration damping, respectively. Results show that softest interlayers lead big stiffness without any positive effect in behavior, worsens as well. By soft elastomers, complex do not provide additional benefit comparison traditional structure core hard skins.
